After five minutes, add the garlic and ground beef, and cook until it turns brown. Add the mushrooms and stir thoroughly. Cook for five minutes until the mushrooms are tender. Stir the beans (with sauce), brewed coffee, tomato sauce and Rotel diced tomatoes. Boil the chili then lower the heat and simmer. Add the sugar, chili powder, bay leaf, cumin, and salt. Simmer and stir on low heat for at least 45 minutes. Add a cayenne pepper to taste.

Serve the chili in bowls or a mess kit and top with cornbread wedges, dollops of sour cream, pickled or sliced jalapenos, and grated cheddar cheese.

Hot dogs

Hot dogs an ideal camp meal if you’d rather not spend much time cooking. Take a large saucepan, half full of water, and place it on a lighted burner or camp stove. When the water starts boiling, use a tong to slip the hot dogs into the water one after the other. Slightly reduce the burner’s heat and simmer the hot dogs for three to six minutes depending on your preferences. If you prefer softer and moister hot dogs, simmer them for three to four minutes. If you prefer crispier hot dogs, simmer them for five to six minutes. When the hot dogs are fully cooked, remove them, and dry them with a paper towel before placing them in a bun.
